About

This is Common Affairs. The name comes from a kind of etymological retracing of ‘republic’ and ‘commonwealth’, trying to play on how so many terms for states are also synonyms for or make reference to words as broad as ‘arrangement’, ‘condition’, or ‘matters’. The name ‘Common Affairs’ is meant to evoke that without sounding like a modern term for a state or a certain kind of state. It’s perfectly vague, and it’s hard to imagine something that wouldn’t fit on a website with that name.

With that in mind, I’m planning on writing anything from polemics to fiction for this site, and I’ll try to keep it all fairly readable. If all goes well, I’ll eventually open for submissions from friends, but the main purpose here is to turn my aimless writing that gets lost in my phone’s notes folder into something resembling productive activity.

In any case, thanks for reading.
